Marriage License

A marriage license is required for anyone intending to be married in the State of New York. There is a 24-hour waiting period before the license takes effect. The marriage license is valid for 60 days. To obtain a marriage license in Pound Ridge, both parties must be present. Appointments should be made with the Town Clerk's office at 914-764-5549. The fee for the marriage license is $40.00.

Applicants must bring the following documents:

1. Certified copy of birth certificate stating their mother's maiden name and their father's name.

2. Government issued photo identification, such as a valid passport or driver's license.

3. If this is not the first marriage for each, a certified copy must be submitted of each judgment of divorce which must include the raised seal of the court and the original signature of the Judge or Court Clerk must be submitted..

4. If applicable, a copy of a death certificate must be supplied.

If any of the documents listed is not written in English, then the document must be translated and certified by the translator. A number of translation services are listed in the yellow pages.

After the ceremony, the officiant will return the original marriage license to the Town Clerk's office and a marriage certificate will be issued. The original license is then forwarded to the New York State Department of Health.
